Backyard Gardening
“Helen’s thoughts:” I’m in the backyard and this is great, wow listen to the birds, so beautiful,…where did I put my glass of ice-tea? Let’s have a little drink before I get my hands in the soil, hmmm, that taste great! And now for my music, and,…hey! Who’s that? Oh! You’re reading my post, okay, well go ahead, I’ll just continue turning the soil until you finish.”
Relaxing Hobby
Gardening relaxes me, getting my hands in the soil and knowing that with a little care, water, removal of the weeds, that in a week or so I will see growth. That is so fulfilling to me, you see, it doesn’t matter what you plant (but do plant what grows in your climate) flowers, a tree, bushes or a vegetable garden it just gives you joy. Besides you’re also helping the environment, the insects benefit from the flowers pollen, the quality of air improves, and your backyard becomes lush and beautiful to look at and sit in, and frankly speaking it’s your Zen place.
Learning To Grow Your Own Veggies
In the city I mostly plant vegetables, I’ve figured out which grow best and deliver the highest yield. It’s so great when you can go outside and grab fresh organic vegetable that you grew with your own 2 hands. Yes they are delicious and the flavor is so rich. However at our country place I mostly plant perennials. I have to make sure that the plants in my yard are tough enough to with stand the rough winters.
Now because plants can get pretty expensive I often look for seedlings, 4 to 10 inches of growth, the price is still reasonable. Yes you can get the more expensive and buy bigger plants, but for me gardening is not a race, it’s my passion, my hobby.
Loving Hobby and Caring your Plants is Rewarding
I’ve also learned that at the end of the spring rush for plants you can pick up some great deals. Listen, with a little love and care that ugly plant that no one want at the garden store can be a fraction of the price and will end up growing as beautiful as all your other plants.
Okay so you figured it out, I’m a little frugal. But I say, why I should turn a hobby into an expensive ordeal when I can do it for next to nothing. If you follow my YouTube link you will see some videos about my gardening projects. If they are not all up come back and visit again. I literally transform my backyard into a beautiful garden, that is why spring is always exiting for me.
