Vacation Times

We know, there’s a lot of info out there about planning the paradise vacation and every one tells you what you need to do or not do, or where you need to go and not go. Yes, you got it, those famous “must do and don’ts.” Everyone is an expert after a few trips, also we are not the experts, however we do travel often.

So here is the thing. the information we are going to give you is based on personal experiences at all-inclusive resorts and we will use Cuba as the go to spot for this conversation.

This write up will not have negative critiques – we simply look at how much we’re paying, the destination spot, how is it rated. First off, we do not plan vacation we prefer to book a few days in advance, and no matter where you’re going, who you’re travelling with – There is always a deal out there that fits your criteria!

When you book our trips, we focus on 4 or 5 star and look for last minute deals that are between $650 to 875.00 CAD. We understand that the critiques out there for Cuba’s food is always negative, but you need to put that in perspective. This is an Island in Caribbean just below Florida, it is a communist country so you must expect that there are limitations on what is accessible, and remember at the resort you are eating better than at least 95% of all Cubans.

Now I share what to expect when going to a resort in Cuba

The People

Cuba has so many highly educated people, there are a lot of Doctors, Nurses, Educators, Engineers and so many other disciplines but unfortunately most do not even work in the field they studied. They are also very courteous, patient, open to conversation, happy to do the job they have and welcoming amongst many other positive things. Remember though you are on Cuban time so just expect that the pace will be a little slower and relaxed.
Another great aspect you learn quickly is they love to have a great time, they dance, sing, smile all the time and they love a good party.

The Beach

You will find that Cuba has some of the best beaches in the world, the sand is soft like flour and usually white, fantastic for those early morning or just before dinner walks. Most beach resorts offer water activities, kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, waterboard but interestingly enough all water activities and paddle boats are all managed by an independent state-run company. All the staff work from one resort to the other and are always on rotation. These individuals are very skilled in sailing and the use of the equipment. All the resorts We have been on has a beach snack bar, a wet bar, outdoor showers and plenty of chairs under umbrellas. We also make it a point to get a fresh coconut to drink.

Rooms

Rooms are clean and, in most cases, have bright green and white as the wall motif, the rooms are simple as they should be and all the rooms come with a safe, small refrigerator with fresh bottled water daily and the house keeper comes by to clean your room daily as well. Yes, you can leave a message to opt out of having your room cleaned but I suggest not just because there is so much sand that you drag in on your shoes and clothing. The rooms that I have been in always have nice views of gardens, the ocean and or the pool.

Resort pools and activities

All resorts had a minimum of 4 pools, personally for me its morning at the ocean and pool side after lunch enjoy all the activities and they are fun. Dancing, volleyball, and swimming up to a wet bar are just some of the pool side activities. You may find a few guest or fellow traveler who has drank more than they should… but its all in good fun.

Evenings at the resort

Every resort has quite a few evening activities ready for you, you can lounge in the main lobby, local fashion designers with there models, Cigar lounges, local craftsmen and women showing their wares, a fun show always family friendly with local talent that engages with the audience and of course the disco after the talent show. There is usually 1 restaurant that stays open after hours for those vacation midnight snacks.

Restaurants

On every resort you have the main buffet, breakfast, lunch and supper and then you have a choice between 5 restaurants to choose from with reservations. The food is good, and be smart about what you order the tastes may be different than what you may expect because they don’t always have the same spices and herbs available. I have never been disappointed yet, and I know so many people criticize the food when they come back from a trip, let me tell you I’ve eaten at some of these peoples homes and their cooking is nothing to talk about (lol) I believe that we might just be a little spoiled with what is available in Canada in which they have no access to. They definitely make the effort to give you their best food.

This is a general overview, we have not covered everything but here are some of the resorts we have been at in the last few years

Hotel Turquesa Holguin. www.Gaviotahotels.com
https://www.facebook.com/HotelTurquesaHolguin

Memories Caribe Beach Resort, Caya coco cuba

Iberostar Daiquiri, Caya coco Cuba

Hotel playa santa Maria, Cayo coco

Melia cayo coco,

Tryp Caya Coco
